NBS and GRAPHISOFT have created an improved workflow between ARCHICAD models and NBS specifications. A new add-on has been released enabling a link between ARCHICAD 23 and NBS Chorus on PC and Mac.
NBS Chorus is a cloud-based specification platform, allowing architects and building industry professionals to create specifications. This direct link with ARCHICAD enables users to create a Virtual Building™ model, drawings and documentation, alongside the specification, together in the modelling environment. This direct link provides a data driven approach while preserving design freedom.
The new add-on also means that the integration of ARCHICAD and the NBS specifications will be compatible with macOS.
NBS CEO, Richard Waterhouse, said back at the initial announcement in 2018:
“We know that a key frustration for a lot of our customers in the UK has been the need to use emulation software to run NBS on a Mac – this has now changed with the NBS Chorus platform and the use of cloud technology. A high percentage of GRAPHISOFT ARCHICAD customers are Mac users and, therefore, we know that integrating NBS Chorus into ARCHICAD will be very well received.”
One of the major benefits of the new add-on is a reduced risk of information becoming out of date throughout the design process, or from possible errors arising from information being input separately into two separate pieces of technology. The NBS specification clauses refer to detailed data stored in the cloud, and are linked directly to classifications in ARCHICAD, without embedding superfluous information. The result is a highly efficient workflow, increasing productivity, and avoiding manual processes.
Nick Greenwood of Maber states ‘The capability to link drawn and specification information together from the very inception of a project will prove invaluable in the seamless development of a coherent and synchronised detailed specification that is linked directly into the building information model. This tool provides us with significant advancements both in terms of productivity and most importantly, quality assurance – the embodiment of the golden thread’
This is important news for those using NBS and ARCHICAD to develop their project information. It reduces the risk of errors being made on complex projects by accurately cross-referencing the project specification from the context of the design. It also gives efficiency improvements by effectively breaking down silos in terms of information delivery.
“NBS users’ request to update the feature to work on Macs has now been fully integrated into an ARCHICAD and NBS environment. After some excellent collaborative software development work and user testing, it’s now fantastic to be able to deliver this to our joint customers.”
Now, information from the specification can be linked seamlessly to the model and drawings with ease at any stage of the project. The difference in terms of both productivity and quality assurance running across a single project is massively improved by this change and will be very welcome news to everyone in the industry.
This isn’t the first time that the two companies have worked together, and their previous combined work includes the NBS link plug in for GRAPHISOFT ARCHICAD and the Library Part Maker tool. The new add-on is a great example of how the two companies are committed to the improvement of the industry, and how collaborative working has become a key in the building industry.
