'Adding Extra Dimensions into a Dimension String' (utilising the pipette and co-ordinates)

In the diagram above, you will find a typical horizontal dimension string. The aim of this tip is to add a dimension at point ‘B’ without deleting the existing dimensions. There are two sizes of window in the floor plan. We will require the window type and size of ‘A’.

HOLD the ALT key down on the keyboard (cursor turns into a pipette)

Move your cursor to the corner of the window and CLICK the mouse

Trick - the properties of any object in the floor plan or 3D window can be obtained using this method. CTRL or (APPLE) and ALT together will turn the cursor into a syringe to inject properties.

Make sure your geometry method of the window object is set to END POINT and REST YOUR CURSOR over position ‘C’.

TYPE X on the keyboard (the X co-ordinate box will highlight)

TYPE 1450mm, then SHIFT PLUS, then RETURN (place the window)

Make your DIMENSION TOOL ACTIVE and set the geometry method to horizontal dimensions.

Hold the SHIFT key down on the keyboard and CLICK on the existing dimension string (two black dots will appear at each end)

Hold the CTRL or (APPLE) key down on the keyboard and CLICK on the two ends of the new window to ADD in the points.
