01. Discover ArchiCAD

Course duration: 2 days

Course prerequisites:

  • A basic understanding of MacOSX or Windows 2000/XP Pro operating system.
  • No prior knowledge of any CAD system is required.

Course descriptor:

This course is designed to take the beginner through the fundamental commands and actions in ArchiCAD to provide a basic knowledge of the processes involved in constructing a ‘ Virtual Building’ model.

Course outline:

  • Introduction to the User Interface
  • Introduction to the modelling tools
  • Constructing a simple 3d building model
  • Creating Sections/Elevations from the model
  • Dimensioning a model
  • Introduction to the 2d tools

02. Fundamental ArchiCAD

Course duration: 4 days

Course prerequisites:

  • A basic understanding of MacOSX or Windows 2000/XP Pro operating system.
  • No prior knowledge of any CAD system is required.

Course descriptor:

This course is designed to take the beginner through the fundamental commands and actions in ArchiCAD to provide a basic knowledge of the processes involved in constructing a ‘ Virtual Building’ model. During the process of creating the model, the document management will also be considered, ultimately leading to the development of the documentation in PlotMaker – including information exchange with 3rd parties.

Course outline:

  • Introduction to the User Interface
  • Introduction to the modelling tools
  • Constructing a simple 3d building model
  • Creating Sections/Elevations from the model
  • Detailed modelling techniques
  • Introduction to the 2d tools including dimensioning
  • Detailed 2d techniques (creating custom lines and fills)
  • Introduction to PlotMaker
  • Document management techniques within ArchiCAD*
    • Creating ArchiCAD templates
    • Creating PlotMaker templates
    • Making use of xref’s and modules
    • Introduction to Teamwork
  • Managing ArchiCAD-PlotMaker revision control
  • Exporting documentation to 3rd parties in various file formats (including dwg)

Please note: templates will be discussed in detail, however it is not possible to fully customise a template as this would require additional time.


03. Document Management with ArchiCAD

Course duration: 1 day

Course prerequisites:

  • A thorough understanding of ArchiCAD.
  • A general understanding of the Virtual Building concept.

Course descriptor:

This course is designed to take the ArchiCAD user and develop their Document Management/Project Management skills. This will help ensure projects run efficiently and office standard are implemented and adhered to.

Course outline:

  • Overview of the file types used by ArchiCAD
  • Introduction and creation of ArchiCAD template files including:
    • Layer setup
    • Layer combinations
    • Pen colours and weights
    • Standard attribute settings
    • Standard office Viewsets
  • Management of Library content and structures
  • Introduction and creation of office standard ‘Work Environment’ including:
    • Data safety
    • Keyboard shortcuts
    • Menu/Toolbar content and layout
  • Introduction and creation of PlotMaker template files including:
    • Master layouts (company drawing sheets)
    • Automatic text entries for common fields
    • Streamlining document export with Publisher
  • Revision control between ArchiCAD and PlotMaker

04. Teamworking with ArchiCAD

Course duration: 1 day

Course prerequisites:

  • A good understanding of ArchiCAD.
  • A general understanding of the Virtual Building concept.

Course descriptor:

This course is designed to take the ArchiCAD user and develop the skills required to work in a ‘team’ environment in order to management projects and document transfers more efficiently.

Course outline:

There are three main ‘teamworking’ areas to be covered in this course – the use of Hotlinked Modules, xref’s and Teamwork Projects.

  • Hotlinked modules
    • Creation and management of modules
  • External reference files (dwg or dxf)
    • Inserting an external reference file
    • Managing an xref in ArchiCAD
    • Working with revision of xref files
  • Teamwork within ArchiCAD
    • Team project setup (for administrators)
    • Overview of the roles team members play in a Teamwork project
    • Detailed examination of all Teamwork features in ArchiCAD
    • Management of a Teamwork project
  • Exchanging files with 3rd parties
    • Overview of available file types
    • Detailed examination of dwg-dxf translator
    • Making use of ‘secure’ file types (pdf and dwf)

05. Visualisation with ArchiCAD and Art*Lantis Render

Course duration: 2 days

Course prerequisites:

  • A good understanding of ArchiCAD modelling techniques.
  • No prior knowledge of ArchiCAD rendering or Art*Lantis Render is required.

Course descriptor:

This course is designed to take the ArchiCAD user through the various rendering options available with ArchiCAD and Art*Lantis.

Course outline:

There are many rendering routes an ArchiCAD user can take within ArchiCAD 9 – the standard Rendering Engine, the Sketch Renderer and the LightWorks rendering engine – as well as the ability to process visualisations with Art*Lantis Render.

  • Overview of rendering options in ArchiCAD
  • Detailed examination of the ArchiCAD Rendering Engine
  • Detailed examination of the Sketch Rendering Engine
  • Detailed examination of the LightWorks Rendering Engine
  • Detailed examination of the transfer of data with Art*Lantis Render
    • Exporting data from ArchiCAD
    • Managing revisions to the model
    • Managing the addition of data to the model
  • The day to day use Art*Lantis Render (50% of course content)
    • The Art*Lantis interface
    • Managing cameras and views
    • Managing lighting
    • Managing ‘effects’
    • Creation of still images, VR scenes and VR objects

06. ArchiCAD 9 Upgrade Training from ArchiCAD 7.0 or below

Course duration: 2 days

Course prerequisites:

  • A good understanding of ArchiCAD and PlotMaker.

Course descriptor:

This course is designed to take the existing ArchiCAD 7.0 (or below) user through the features that have been introduced and enhanced in ArchiCAD 8.0 and 9.0.

Course outline:

Since ArchiCAD 7.0, powerful new features have been incorporated, specifically designed to enhance your productivity and deliver performance that’s faster than ever.

Overview of the new features introduced over in ArchiCAD 8.0 and 9.0 including:

  • Fresh look and feel interface
  • Revised selection methods
  • Rich text editor
  • Work environment
  • Viewsets and Navigator control
  • Company specific template development
  • ArchiCAD/PlotMaker interaction
  • Using Publisher for document output
  • dxf/dwg translators

07. ArchiCAD 9 Upgrade Training from ArchiCAD 8.0/8.1

Course duration: 1 day

Course prerequisites:

  • A good understanding of ArchiCAD 8.0/8.1 and PlotMaker 3.0/3.1.
  • A working knowledge of Viewsets and the use of Navigator.
